CINCINNATI (ENQUIRER) - FC Cincinnati’s club-record winning streak had to end eventually, but not many would have expected it to cease in the manner it did.

A three-win Nashville SC side that was winless on the road in 2024 came to TQL Stadium and stunned FC Cincinnati with a 2-0 win on Wednesday before a sellout crowd of 25,513.

Nashville SC silenced TQL Stadium with two first-half goals in the span of four minutes, in the 25th and 29th minutes, respectively. Nashville then made convincing work of holding onto its shutout as it improved to 4-4-7 on the season.

FC Cincinnati’s seven-match winning streak was snapped as it fell to 10-3-3 on the season. The loss was Cincinnati’s first since April 13 at CF Montreal.

Nashville’s Jack Maher tapped in for a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute of a Hany Mukhtar corner kick. Mukhtar was the key distributor again in the 29th minute when he dished the ball wide to Jacob Shaffelburg, who lashed a shot off Roman Celentano and in for the 2-0 lead.

Cincinnati had plenty of opportunities to score throughout the match but couldn’t get past Nashville goalkeeper Joe Willis, who ended the night with six saves.

Cincinnati’s Luca Orellano had six shots in total, and forced Willis into two saves. Kevin Kelsy was stopped twice by Willis, too.

The loss makes for a sour note for FC Cincinnati, which is idle on Saturday. That, plus the MLS pause for the FIFA’s June international window, means FCC won’t have a chance to produce a better performance until its June 15 match at San Jose Earthquakes.
