CINCINNATI (WXIX) - FC Cincinnati head coach Pat Noonan will be suspended for an additional match, according to the Major League Soccer Disciplinary Committee.

The decision stems from an incident that happened during a game against Chicago Fire FC on July 17.

Noonan accumulated two yellow cards from the sideline, frustrated with the referee’s calls during the match.

FCC defender Alvas Powell received two back-to-back yellow cards in the 88th minute while trying to deescalate a situation on the field, FC Cincinnati officials wrote on July 18. He was ultimately ejected from the match.

Shortly after, Cincinnati defender DeAndre Yedlin also received a yellow card for “pleading his teammate’s case,” FC explained.

The head coach did not seem to agree with the referee’s decisions and voiced his opinion. It was not until the 96th minute that Noonan received his second yellow card “for dissent,” FCC said.

MLS video shows Noonan talking with the referee, who was preparing a yellow and red card in each hand, arguing his case. His arms go up in disapproval, words were exchanged and then he left the stadium.

“(Noonan) is always fighting for us. He believes in us. I’ve never doubted that,” Yedlin said during the press conference that night. “We’re going through a tough moment. I’m sure he’s frustrated as well.”

On Friday, Aug. 2, the disciplinary committee made the announcement that the coach is suspended from a second game, citing parameter 2 of MLS rules.

Since his ejection from the match, Noonan has already served one of his two game suspensions on July 20 against the New York Red Bulls. The next game he will miss is on Aug. 24 against Inter Miami CF.

Suspensions do not apply to Leagues Cup games.
