CINCINNATI (WXIX) - An FC Cincinnati midfielder, who is out on loan, was hospitalized Monday after a fatal crash in Ecuador.

According to a statement from FC Cincinnati officials, Marco Angulo, 22, was involved in a vehicle crash that happened in Quito - about 197 miles from Angulo’s hometown of Esmeraldas.

Angulo played 24 games for FC Cincinnati last season in 2023. He claimed two goal assists with eight shots on goal as a defensive midfielder.

In March, the franchise loaned Angulo to Liga Deportiva Universitaria Quito, of the Ecuadorian Liga Pro, until Dec. 31, 2024.

According to a translated X post by Ecuador Communication Radio, several other players from Liga De Quito were involved in the Monday morning crash as well.

The post says a fifth person, who has not been identified, was also involved and is believed to be dead.

Ecuador Communication Radio later spoke with an official at the scene who confirmed the information.
