UNION, Ky. (WXIX) - A year after coming one win short of a state title, the Cooper High School football team is undefeated behind junior quarterback Cam O’Hara.

Cooper lost the KHSAA Commonwealth 5A state title game to Bowling Green last year 28-14. The game was Cooper’s last trip to the Gridiron Bowl since 2012 when the Jaguars also lost to Bowling Green 34-20.

O’Hara said the 2024 season is about unfinished business.

“I think we’re all bought in," O’Hara said. “We all want one main goal and that’s to make it to state. That’s the main goal - everyone being together and having high hopes."

O’Hara has thrown for 1,822 yards and leads the state with 25 touchdown passes. He said the team buying into winning and having an offense full of weapons has made his job easier.

“I have so many guys around me that make me look good sometimes,” O’Hara said. “I make them look good and they make me look good. Just having them around me is a blessing.”

Cooper coach Randy Borchers said O’Hara started as a freshman and has continued to mature at the position.

“This is his third year and we’re really comfortable with him in our system now," Borchers said. “He does a tremendous job leading our offense. He does a great job making the correct reads and being the guy everyone looks up to.”

O’Hara said the teams' focus on a state title began at the start of the 2023 season. It’s been the goal driving the team for two seasons.

“We all know we can make that goal,” O’Hara said. “We had that goal since last season. Being able to take it from last year, have the same goal, the same hopes and everybody being bought in.”

Cooper hosts Scott High School on Friday.
