Baseball field named for Pete Rose
CINCINNATI (WXIX) - A baseball field in Hamilton County now bears Pete Rose’s name.
The ball field at Boldface Park in Sedamsville has been renamed “Pete Rose Ballfield”.
Rose learned to play baseball at Boldface Park, according to Cincinnati Vice Mayor Jan-Michele Kearney.
“Amazing day,” said Phil Castellini, CEO of the Cincinnati Reds. “You know what, Pete would have loved to play on a day like this. Weather didn’t bother him. He played for the fans. He played with all he had. This is long overdue but really excited about today.”
Rose’s daughter, son, grandchildren, other extended family members, and Cincinnati Reds owner Bob Castellini were there for the dedication.
“Your dad looking down on this today, what’s he thinking?” Pete Rose Jr. said. “He probably wants the rain to stop so they can play ball. I would probably say that. But I’m sure he’s smiling, you know, he’s probably up there with all the guys and just say, this is where I played. I’m sure my grandpa is right over his shoulder.”
Cincinnati’s vice mayor says the Reds are contributing a marker and signage at the park.
Boldface Park is located at 3048 River Road in Sedamsville.
