FC Cincinnati submits final proposal for $332M West End development
CINCINNATI (WXIX) - FC Cincinnati submitted its final $332 million plan to build a mixed-use development in the West End.
The Cincinnati City Planning Commission held a public meeting Tuesday evening to review the project.
Currently, the development is advancing to the next phase, an FCC spokesperson said, which is now in the hands of the commission.
Both the planning commission and city council unanimously approve of the proposal.
At the development’s center is two towers at the corner of Central Parkway and Liberty Street next to TQL Stadium. One tower will be apartments and FCC offices, while the other is a hotel with restaurants and retail space.
FC Cincinnati’s plans also include an entertainment venue and parking. According to renderings, the towers will sit more than 50 feet taller than TQL Stadium.
Although the city planning commission and city council are on board, some residents are not.
Property owner Anita Pryor said she was stunned at the height of the proposed buildings.
“I am very disappointed,” Pryor said. “When I open my front door, I already have this gigantic stadium that is larger than it said it would be. And now they’re going to build even taller buildings in my neighborhood.”
“This is definitely commercial and I just wish it would have been down on the Banks,” she said.
Over-the-Rhine resident Gus Ricksecker expressed support for the development.
“Some of the height reductions show trying to take in context to the surrounding areas,” Ricksecker said. “I think anything next to a stadium is going to look a little bit smaller in scale anyways. But I do want to express my support because I think building something larger here is one of the few places in the urban core where it is still appropriate instead of just downtown.”
An FC Cincinnati representative said the project is important for both the team and the neighborhood.
“We feel it’s very important both for our project and for working in cooperation with the neighborhood that this really needs to work as a district part of the West End neighborhood,” the spokesperson said.
The final development plan does not require a city council vote and only needs approval from the planning commission.
Construction is planned to begin by January 2026 to secure state funding.
