Volunteers gather to honor service members for National Wreaths Across America Day

CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Thousands of people across the United States gathered Saturday to volunteer and lay wreaths to honor those who served their country.

The celebrations were a part of National Wreaths Across America Day, which is observed in communities and cemeteries across the country, including at Bridgetown Cemetery.

The tradition originated through Wreaths Across America, a nonprofit with a mission to remember the fallen and teach the next generation the value of freedom.

Since 2008, National Wreaths Across America Day has been celebrated on the second or third Saturday of December.
