Announcement: The Cincinnati Zoo is expecting twin red pandas!
CINCINNATI (WXIX) - A social media post revealed the news: The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens is expecting twin red panda cubs.
“The zoo is growing by a few feet. Guess who’s expecting!” the Zoo said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
Nearly 800 people offered up guesses including an otter, an elephant, or a sloth to name a few.
“I was very excited to see today two happy fetuses bouncing along with their umbilical cords and heart rates,” said Tori Kennedy, the ultrasound technician who is a post-doctoral scientist at the zoo’s Lindner Center for Conservation and Research of Endangered Wildlife.
It will be the first birth for Marcy and her cubs are due in about three weeks the zoo told our media partners at the Cincinnati Enquirer.
These will be the 100th and 101st red panda births at the Cincinnati Zoo.
The last time a red panda was born at the zoo was in September 2021 and her name is Shenmi, selected by public vote.
