Lockland High School cancels football season

LOCKLAND, Ohio (WXIX) - Lockland High School will not have a football team this season.

The district announced the difficult decision to cancel the 2026 season Tuesday on Facebook.

Lockland Local Schools said there was not enough interest in playing from students, and that resulted in the inability to field a team.

“We anticipated that our numbers would be lean again this year but we remained hopeful that we would have enough to take the field this Fall,” Lockland Local Schools wrote on Facebook. After a team meeting held last night, it became evident that this would not be the case this year.”

According to our media partners at the Cincinnati Enquirer, Lockland Athletic Director Jon Payne said the school had 15 players in the program and the decision to cancel the season was made at a team meeting on Aug. 3.
