Janelle Monáe joins list of headliners for America’s River Roots Festival

CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Singer-songwriter and rapper Janelle Monáe is coming to the Queen City this fall, joining the star-studded lineup for America’s River Roots Festival.
Monáe, an artist known for blending genres like R&B, soul and funk in her music, will be one of the festival’s headliners Thursday, Oct. 9.
Her most popular songs include “Tightrope,” “I Like That,” “PYNK” and “Make Me Feel,” from her last album, “Dirty Computer,” released in 2018. The record includes songs with several features, including Brian Wilson, Zoë Kravitz, Grimes and Pharrell Williams.

The announcement comes just days after festival organizers announced Walker Hayes would also be performing alongside headliner Marren Morris Sunday, Oct. 12 at Smale Riverfront Park.


Other headliners for America’s 250th Birthday celebration includes Weezer and Mt. Joy.
Here’s what the schedule looks like so far with more announcements on the way:
- Thursday, Oct. 9: Janelle Monáe at Smale Riverfront Park
- Friday, Oct. 10: Mt. Joy at Smale Riverfront Park
- Saturday, Oct. 11: Weezer at Smale Riverfront Park
- Sunday, Oct. 12: Maren Morris and Walker Hayes at Smale Riverfront Park


Free performances by local and regional artists can be seen at the following stages:
- Sawyer Point Stage - Gospel and cultural rhythms
- Schmidlapp Stage - Jazz and gospel
- Freedom Center Stage - R&B and blues
- Covington Stage - Bluegrass, country and Americana
- Newport Stage - Southern rock and blues
- Yeatmans Cove Stage - Cross-genre
- Public Landing Stage - Regional music
