CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Donovan’s Auto & Tire Centers is offering free Freon with air conditioning service through the end of May, with a portion of proceeds benefiting a local veterans nonprofit.

The promotion, called “Cool It for a Cause,” includes free Freon up to a $50 value with any air conditioning service at Donovan’s locations. Ten percent of the service fee will be donated to the Barracks Project, a Cincinnati nonprofit that has provided housing, emergency financial aid and care packages to veterans and service members since 2016.

“Our grandfather was a veteran himself,” said Dane Donovan, owner of Donovan’s Auto & Tire Center. “He fought in World War II, was a Marine, started Donovan’s in 1958, and we wanted to, we continue and always want to give back to the community.”

The company has been in business for 69 years in Cincinnati.

“I think up above, I think he’d be proud of what we’re doing,” Donovan said. “He led a tremendous life and built a tremendous legacy here at Donovan’s.”

Dennis Campbell Jr., a veteran who works at Donovan’s, said the campaign is meaningful.

“There’s a lot of veterans in the United States that go about their business and some are homeless, things like that,” Campbell said. “So any company to step on board and take the initiative to contribute to society that way with men and women that have served our country and given everybody the rights to do what we do, you know, it means a lot to me.”

The promotion is available to anyone through the end of May. Donovan’s also offers additional perks for veterans and first responders throughout the year.

“Nobody likes to be hot in the summertime,” Campbell said. “So if we can help the vets stay cool, it’s a great cause.”

The service is available at Donovan’s locations in Pleasant Ridge, Blue Ash and Norwood.
