Butler County veterans gain expanded dental care through new partnership
Program now covers extractions, fillings, root canals and dentures beyond basic cleanings

BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (WXIX) - A new partnership is expanding dental care options for Butler County veterans beyond basic cleanings and checkups.
The Butler County Veterans Service Office has partnered with Primary Health Solutions to offer comprehensive dental services through the Veterans Dental Assistance Program.
“We have here in Butler County, it’s called a Veterans Dental Assistance Program,” said Mike Farmer, director of the Butler County Veterans Service Office. “The process starts here in our office.”
Veterans need a Butler County Veterans ID card to access the program. The office offers free registration for veterans who do not have one.
“Once you have that, we give you a voucher to Primary Health Solutions, and they take care of your dental needs, whether that be a cleaning, an exam, cancer screening, all the way up through and including dentures, root canals,” Farmer said.
Expanded coverage addresses gap in VA benefits
Only one out of every four veterans enrolled in VA healthcare is eligible for dental benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs, according to Farmer.
Primary Health Solutions operates eight dental locations across Butler County. The partnership marks the largest dental provider group to participate in the county program.
The previous program covered only an oral exam, x-ray and cleaning through five or six individual private dental practices.

Emergency dental care now accessible
The expanded coverage addresses dental emergencies for veterans on fixed incomes.
“It’s expensive. And so we saw a huge need for extractions, fillings, root canals, all of those things that we may take for granted, those with dental insurance,” Farmer said. “But again, if you’re on a fixed income or you’ve neglected it for a number of years, those can all be problematic in your overall health.”
Veterans can contact the Butler County Veterans Service Office to begin the enrollment process.
