MASON, Ohio (WXIX) - Court documents show a man shot his 65-year-old mother about four to five times with semi-automatic handgun at a home in Mason Monday night.

Jarrett Buttrey, whose address is listed as the home, was booked into the Warren County jail at 11:21 p.m. on charges of felonious assault and causing harm to an animal, his jail booking page shows.

He is being held on a $300,000 bond.

Shooting, standoff in quiet neighborhood

Mason police responded to a domestic violence situation in the 1400 block of Windward Drive, off Butler Warren Road, about 7:30 p.m. Monday.

They said they found a woman, now identified as Buttrey’s mother in court documents, shot and a man barricaded inside.

She was taken to UC West Chester Hospital. At the same time, the Warren County Tactical Response (SWAT) team arrived and began to negotiate with the suspect, according to Police Chief Levi Wells.

Buttrey was taken into custody after hours of negotiations without further incident, the chief said.

“They were very quiet, kept to themselves. They didn’t bother anybody. They’re good neighbors and she still a good neighbor. So I am praying for the family and I hope everything works out great for her,” a neighbor said.

Investigation continues

Mason police remained on scene for hours investigating.

The chief said he could not confirm what led up to the shooting.

He was also unable to provide details on the woman’s condition.

It also remains unclear why Buttrey is charged with harming an animal.
