CINCINNATI (WXIX) - This weekend will see the return of an annual event that pays tribute to the military’s history.

The sound of engines and views of aircraft soaring in the air return with Lunken Airport Days.

Lunken Airport Days offers guests a chance to see vintage airplanes up close and learn about their history.

“My most favorite thing is to see these antique aircraft,” Tri-State Honor Flight Director Cheryl Popp said. “They’ll be a thing of the past eventually because you just can’t... It’s an 80-year-old airplane.”

For just $10, visitors can tour the cockpits and view military vehicles. Visitors can even buy tickets to ride in a World War II bomber.

Lunken Airport Days is part open house, part fundraiser.

It raises money and awareness for Honor Flight Tri-State and other veterans’ groups.

The two-day event is free and open to the public.

In addition to the aircraft, the event will feature vintage cars, food trucks, and a patriot color guard ceremony each day at 12 p.m.

The two-day event starts Aug. 30.
